Cannon Theater Company 2017-2018 Season

Cannon Theater Company's mission is to build community through storytelling. With our 2017-18 season, we face an exciting array of new storytelling challenges, from performing 20 plays in 45 minutes to staging pirate battles to creating a giant flying alligator. Why engage in all this craziness? Life is crazy, and theater provides a uniquely powerful opportunity for us to make sense of it together.

Peter and the Starcatcher

A Play By Rick Elice, Based on the Novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Music By Wayne Barker
February 15-17, 2018
7:00 p.m.

When this thrilling play opened on Broadway in 2012, Ben Brantley of the New York Times best summed up its appeal: “With grown-up theatrical savvy and a child’s wonder at what it can achieve, Peter and the Starcatcher floats right through the ceiling of the physical limits imposed by a three-dimensional stage.” Bring the whole family to witness the magical, musical tale of how a young adventurer named Molly befriends the nameless, homeless boy who will become Peter Pan.

This production is open to the public; free admission for Cannon School families; $10 for guests - tickets sold the night of the production in Campbell Gallery.

Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes)

By Greg Allen
November 9 - 11, 2017
7:00 p.m.

Having opened in 1988 and still playing today as the longest-running show in Chicago history, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind is an ensemble experiment in presenting “30 Plays in 60 Minutes” (though due to rules of the North Carolina Theater Conference High School Play Festival at which we perform every fall, our version to be closer to 20 plays in 45 minutes). Each two-minute play is performed in random order with an interactive audience. This eclectic collection of comic, tragic, personal, and abstract plays will add up to an evening of theater unlike anything you’ve experienced.

This production is suitable for audiences 7th grade and older, and is open to the public.
