Girls Lacrosse added to Middle and Upper School
Cannon School is excited to announce the addition of girls lacrosse to the sports offerings at the Middle and Upper School varsity level! We will field teams this spring.
There has been growing interest in the sport, and last spring a group of Upper School girls worked to form a club team. Two of those players, Alivia Calabrase ’21 and Bella Edmondson ’21, along with MS students Addison Maynor ’27 & Maggie Murphy ’27 approached Cannon’s Director of Athletics, Katie LaRue, about elevating the program. “Based on the passion and teamwork demonstrated by these young women, as well as Cannon’s research to ensure a new team will be sustainable, this is an exciting opportunity for our female student-athletes, their families, and our school.”
Bella Edmondson and Alivia Calabrase, both ’21, were instrumental in forming the club lacrosse team last year, as well as working with AD LaRue this year. “When we were putting the club together last year, we thought an NCISAA team might be a possibility down the road, but we’re so excited that it’s going to happen while we’re here, as seniors,” said Bella.
Alivia added, “It feels so great that we are giving younger girls an opportunity to play this sport and be successful.” Another shout-out to Morgan Stilphen '20, whose hard work helped pave the way for this new program!
