Audition Information for CTC: 2023-2024

Now is the time to sign up for auditions for Cannon Theater Company’s winter musical “Into The Woods” by following these three steps!

Step 1: Sign up here for a 90-minute Saturday morning audition on September 9 or September 16 in the CPAC.

Step 2: Prepare for your audition by clicking here for audition instructions and materials.

Step 3: Fill out this audition form BEFORE your audition date, which will also answer a lot of the questions you may have about schedule, commitment, etc.

General Audition Information for CTC

What happens at the audition?

During the first hour you'll learn, practice, and perform some choreography. The second two hours will focus on singing and acting. You will practice the singing in groups but then audition singing alone. For the acting portion, you'll practice and audition in groups of two or three.

Do I need to prepare?

Even though your audition will include time for review and practice, it is to your competitive advantage to prepare. Cannon’s Director of Theater Arts Mr. Macdonald typically sends out audition instructions and materials ahead of time to those who sign up.

Is there a form we have to fill out?

Yes, but we’ll typically have that for you at the audition.

Cannon Theater Company FAQs

What is Cannon Theater Company?

Cannon Theater Company (CTC) is the Upper School after-school component of Cannon's co-curricular theater program. Every year CTC performs a fall play at the North Carolina Theater Conference (NCTC) and then at Cannon. In the winter, CTC performs a larger scale musical or play. Musicals compete in the high school musical theater awards, known as the Blumey Awards. Every spring looks different for CTC depending on our focus and performance opportunities. Committing to CTC for a season is similar to committing to a Cannon athletics team.

What shows will be performed this year?

Are parents involved in CTC?

There is a long tradition of collaboration in CTC between the Cannon Theater faculty, theater students, and their parents. Parents are instrumental in house management, supporting the cast and crew with snacks and drinks, lending/transporting large set pieces and props, and helping strike the set after final performances. Parents also help chaperone during the NCTC weekend and provide potluck meals on CTC Night. CAFTA (Cannon Advocates for the Arts) has a dedicated Theater liaison parent who supports CTC as well as the Upper School and Middle School theater curricular programs throughout the year.

What is the Cannon Theater Cabaret?

The Cannon Theater Cabaret is an annual end of season celebration in May for Cannon Theater Company members, Upper School theater class students, and their parents. The audience enjoys dessert and coffee while entertained by an evening of short scenes, songs, and award presentations. It is also the setting in which we celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating seniors.
