This fall, Cannon Theater Company will once again present its annual evening of one-act plays, featuring “Theophilus North” by Matthew Burnett. Set in the tiny resort town of Newport, RI, during the height of the Jazz Age in summer 1926, Theophilus North follows the exploits of the title character as he searches for adventure and his place in the world.

CTC will perform “Theophilus North” at the North Carolina Theater Conference High School Play Festival before bringing it home to Cannon’s Cindric Performing Arts Center. 

In addition to “Theophilus North”, Cannon’s inspired and skilled Upper School acting students will present a perennial favorite known for being the most-produced high school one-act for 18 consecutive years, “Check Please” by Jonathan Rand. “Check Please” follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do. Could there be a light at the end of the tunnel?

Tickets will be sold at the door and are free for Cannon employees, families, and alumni. Cost is $10 for guests.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. 

Parents of younger children should know that while Into The Woods is beautiful, clever, and funny throughout, the musical doesn’t shy away from some of the macabre elements of Grimm’s fairytales. While Act 1 ends with a “happily ever after” resolution, Act 2 (after intermission) moves into more emotionally complex territory as characters face the moral dilemmas and consequences of their actions in the woods, and not all survive.
