At Cannon School, we’re all about celebrating creativity, and one of our talented juniors has taken that celebration to a whole new level. Meet Caiya Pfitzner ‘26, an AP Studio Art student who’s been immersed in the world of art since she was a toddler. Caiya’s passion for art has evolved over the years, and today, she’s focusing mainly on digital art. Her style, she says, has grown from "cartoony" in her younger years to being influenced by anime, and more recently, she’s been experimenting with realism.

This year, Caiya had the opportunity to design a new logo for Arts Jam, Cannon’s annual arts festival held every spring. But this wasn’t just any logo design. In a festival where the logo had changed every year, Caiya was tasked with creating a permanent logo that will represent Arts Jam for years to come. This is a huge honor, and Caiya approached it with the same creativity and passion she brings to all of her work.

When asked about her inspiration for the logo, Caiya explained that the theme for Arts Jam this year was "heart of learning," which became the foundation for her design. She focused on the flow of the words, making them feel both fluid and dynamic. The design also incorporates a retro aesthetic to give the logo a timeless quality. But above all, Caiya wanted the logo to exude a bubbly and lively feeling that captured the energy and excitement surrounding the festival while still keeping the focus on learning—a theme that runs through every aspect of Arts Jam, from visual arts to music, theater, and literature.

Her original design received some helpful feedback, allowing her to make revisions that would ensure the logo worked across a variety of products and platforms. "I hope when people see the logo, they’ll feel connected to the Cannon community," Caiya said. To her, the three words that best describe the logo are “bubbly,” “lively,” and “community.” For Caiya, seeing her artwork become a permanent part of the Cannon community is both humbling and exciting. “I feel so thankful and grateful to have part of my art stay here for years to come,” she says. “It’s amazing to know that it will continue to have an impact on the community.”

Caiya’s love for Arts Jam isn’t just about designing the logo. She’s volunteered at the festival in the past and loves watching the whole community come together to celebrate the arts. In her eyes, art, like her logo, plays a crucial role in fostering connection. "I think art helps bring people together," she explains. "It connects those who share the same passions and also helps strengthen the culture of the school as a whole."

As a dedicated student and artist, Caiya has some advice for anyone thinking about pursuing art but unsure of where to start. "Explore different mediums," she encourages. "There are times when it will be hard to see if you're making progress, but there’s always a way up. Push through and have fun!" It’s clear that her journey in art has been one of growth, perseverance, and plenty of joy.

So the next time you spot the new Arts Jam logo, know that it’s not just a design—it’s a reflection of Caiya’s hard work, creativity, and dedication to our school community. We can’t wait to see how it will continue to represent the celebration of arts, learning, and connection for years to come.
