Learning Mosaic Conference Yields Growth and Collaboration

Learning Mosaic

On February 14, Cannon School hosted its second annual Learning Mosaic conference, an engaging all-day professional development event for faculty and staff. With over 200 educators in attendance, this year's conference continued the tradition of fostering a collaborative environment where teachers and staff could deepen their knowledge and enhance their teaching strategies.

Launched in 2024, the Learning Mosaic is designed to bring the Cannon community together to explore innovative methods for boosting learning both inside and outside of the classroom. This year’s event featured a variety of guest speakers, breakout sessions, and hands-on learning experiences, all rooted in the latest educational neuroscience research. The focus was on understanding diverse learning styles and equipping educators with strategies to better connect with students.

Breakout sessions included topics such as Voices of Belonging: Insights from Our Students, Empowering Educators with AI, Your Brain on Art: Cultivating Critical Thinking Across the Curriculum, and Building Bridges: Strengthening Faculty and Staff Connections. Other sessions covered everything from Tai Chi basics to the power of sleep, ensuring there was something for everyone interested in enhancing both personal well-being and educational practices.

The conference was organized by Cannon's academic team, including Nate Rogers, Melissa Fox, Catherine Jones, Becca Eury, and Claudia Velandia, who hope to expand the event in future years through partnerships with other schools.

The Learning Mosaic is a key opportunity for Cannon’s educators to reflect on their teaching practices, share new ideas, and return to their classrooms with a renewed focus on student-centered learning. With its successful second year, this event is poised to become a significant annual tradition for the Cannon community.
