Cannon School Honors Veterans

Veterans Day 11-11-24

In recognition of Veterans Day on November 11, Cannon School held a breakfast to celebrate staff and faculty members who have served our country. Over muffins and American flag cookies, students and staff paid homage to these individuals and expressed gratitude for their selfless service.

“We are so grateful that these veterans have chosen to continue their careers of leadership and service here at Cannon,” said Head of School Mike Drew. “Their contributions show unparalleled commitment to our community and embody the core values that make us leaders.”

Veterans in attendance shared powerful stories of their military experiences with students present, highlighting the qualities of leadership and teamwork necessary to achieve success. They encouraged attendees to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives in service to our country, but also actively support those veterans who are still with us.

“The sacrifices made by veterans are immense and often difficult to comprehend fully,” said Donnie Hayes, an advisor and math teacher in Cannon Middle School. “Recognizing these sacrifices is essential because it helps us understand the bravery and commitment required to serve in our armed forces.”

Cannon Middle School embraced the spirit of recognition through the efforts of social studies teacher John Cooke. He curated thoughtfully designed bulletin boards, showcasing the family members of students and staff who served in the military, fostering a sense of pride and connection within the school community. Fifth grade students also wrote letters to military members to thank them for their service.

Cannon School is proud to recognize and honor the significant contributions and sacrifices made by veterans. Through Veterans Day activities, Cannon strives to instill a sense of gratitude, respect, and awareness in students to honor the spirit of the holiday.
