A Flourishing Future: September Construction Update

Exciting progress continues on Cannon’s A Flourishing Future campaign as work on the Gossage Building expansion and renovation moves steadily forward. Over the past month, Barringer—alongside their subcontractor and Gold Corporate Partner J.D. Goodrum—have been hard at work laying the foundation (literally) for the future of Cannon’s Upper School.

Throughout August, crews successfully created the building pad, poured the footings, and are now preparing to pour the foundational walls this week. Once complete, backfilling of dirt around the foundation will begin to further stabilize the structure.

Looking ahead, one of the most visible milestones is just around the corner. Structural steel erection is scheduled to begin the week of September 15 and will continue for several weeks. This phase will mark the start of the building taking shape above ground—an exciting sight for the entire Cannon community.

Upper School students should also keep an eye out for a special opportunity to leave their mark on this new chapter in Cannon’s story. On September 10, all Upper School students will be invited to participate in a “beam signing” event, where they can sign a steel beam before it’s installed as part of the building’s frame. This symbolic gesture will ensure that students are a lasting part of this transformative project.
