Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday celebrated for eight days and nights. It starts on the twenty-fifth of the Jewish month of Kislev, which coincides with late November-late December on the secular calendar. In Hebrew, the word "hanukkah" means "dedication." The name reminds us that this holiday commemorates the re-dedication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C.E.

Diwali, the Indian New Year was highlighted in November. It is called the Festival of Lights as the diyas (flames in small earthen pots) symbolize peace, prosperity, and knowledge that overcomes darkness, despair and ignorance

Rohan Handa '18 and Kunal Handa '21 wrote the following article about Diwali. We thank these students for going beyond to write an article that's meaningful to their culture.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

During his proclamation of National Hispanic Heritage Month in 2013, the President stated two key facts: First, all Americans are bound by a love of liberty and justice and the belief that a better life should await anyone willing to work for it; secondly, Hispanic Americans represent an array of distinct and vibrant cultures, each of which enriches communities in valuable ways.
