Meet Coach Shawn Powell

Shawn Powell was named as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Cannon School in May 2014. Coach Powell works with student-athletes in Cannon's newly constructed 3,500-square foot Andrews Strength and Conditioning Center.

Coach Powell joined Cannon after spending five years as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Penske Racing and seven years as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Carolina Panthers.

Coach Powell rose to the top of the list of our national search and is clearly a strength and conditioning coach of high character, experience and competence. Equally important is his history working with championship programs, including his time with the Carolina Panthers when they reached the Super Bowl, and his tenure with one of the most elite auto racing organizations in the world at Penske Racing.

Coach Powell, a North Carolina native, holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Kinesiology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and an Associate of Arts in Health Fitness Technology from Brevard College.

Meet Assistant Coach Lew Stephens

Lew Stephens joined Cannon in 2019 after spending the previous two years serving as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Georgia College and State University. There he designed and implemented athletic development programs for the soccer and softball teams while assisting with the basketball, tennis, and baseball programs. In addition, Coach Stephens has completed a variety of strength and conditioning internships including ones at Greater Atlanta Christian School, Athens Academy, Sports Performance and Athletes Rehabilitation Center, and Clemson University. He discovered his passion for coaching while serving as an assistant baseball coach and volunteer strength and conditioning coach at Prince Avenue Christian School.

Coach Stephens is a native of Georgia and holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Georgia and a Master of Science in Health and Human Performance from Georgia College and State University. Coach Stephens is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
