Alumni Snapshots

A Cannon education prepares our graduates for an unpredictable world, filled with possibilities and opportunities to serve others while exploring their interests, and creating pathways where none existed.  Our alumni serve in the fields of social justice, medicine, education, journalism - far and wide, and close to home. Some serve in the armed forces, others in politics. We are so proud of each of them. We will highlight their stories here on a rotating basis, so please check back often.

Barclay Sparrow ‘13
Barclay Sparrow ‘13

Nothing went exactly as planned when Barclay graduated from Cannon. College admissions didn’t pan out like she’d hoped, but she landed at William & Mary. Honestly, she only applied because her mom thought it would be a perfect fit - and she was right (thanks Mom). At W&M she continued exploring her love of theater that began at Cannon, jumping into backstage roles for the first time and realizing she may be able to do it forever.

When Barclay graduated college, she took the leap to NYC, getting by selling merch at a tiny children’s theater and working coat check in a cabaret venue. She soon scored her first full time theater job as an assistant to a Talent Agent at United Talent Agency, and learned exactly how much she didn’t know she didn’t know. It was a tough transition being thrown into the business side of entertainment. She learned very quickly the importance of loving your work when the days get long and hard - and that she needed to be back in a theater for real.

Today, Barclay is living a dream as the executive assistant to the President of Disney Theatrical Group. She witnessed first hand how top executives navigated the pandemic crisis on Broadway. Much of her 2021 involved coordinating schedules to get over 20 Disney productions back up and running around the world. She even got to travel to London to help open Beauty and the Beast on the West End in June 2021, bringing her full circle back to Cannon. Her final performance in Cannon Theater was as “Mrs. Potts.” As Disney Cast Members say, now she’s making the magic, not just playing it. Cheesy, but true.
