Theater Audition Announcement for Upper School Students

Hey There New Cannon Upper Schoolers!

I’m Andy Macdonald, the Director of Theater Arts, and first, I want to say welcome to Cannon! One of my favorite lines comes from a Kurt Vonnegut character who said, “There isn’t any other way to get to know a lot of nice people faster than to be in a play.” Getting involved in Cannon Theater Company, on or off stage, has been a wonderful way for new students to feel embraced quickly by a diverse community sharing a common goal. There is no such thing as one kind of “theater kid” at Cannon. Some of our students participate in every show and take every class, while others just do one show per year due to other commitments. All are welcome.

To that end, I wanted to let you know that we run auditions for our fall play in the spring so that we can hit the ground running with rehearsals as soon as school starts in August. This year, we will produce “Winter Break” by Joe Calarco. Alternately hilarious and touching, the play follows nineteen teenagers, some who know each other, some who don’t, as they wrestle with friendships, breakups, loss, graduation, and their place in the world. Every year, we perform both at Cannon and at the North Carolina Theater Conference High School Play Festival.

For anyone interested, just follow these simple steps:

  1. Send an email to Andy Macdonald so that we can set up a 15-minute audition time that works for you (ideally by May 21.)
  2. Fill out this online audition form.
  3. Become familiar with these audition scripts.
  4. Show up ready to play!
We also produce a musical every winter, but auditions for that won’t take place until after we get rolling in August. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.

Looking forward to having you here!
Mr. Mac

Get Involved! Volunteer with Parents at Cannon

Parents at Cannon (PAC) is a dynamic group of four parent volunteer organizations that enhance campus life for our students, parents, faculty, and staff. Each PAC group specializes in supporting a particular area of our school community. All Cannon parents are automatically members of PAC as part of tuition.

Volunteering is an excellent way of getting involved in the Cannon Community. Visit the PAC webpage to learn more about each organization, and about the many ways that you can get involved.
