Diversity and Belonging
Cannon’s diversity statement is rooted in the conviction that learning, leadership potential, and life’s experiences are all enhanced when a community pledges to take the time to understand individual differences and to build bridges so that everyone knows he or she belongs.
The Leadership Team at Cannon, in concert with the Diversity Committee, an active body comprised of teachers, students, parents, and trustees, work together to talk about opportunities that maximize each student’s learning, equip teachers to prepare their students for the global community, and bring parents into this most important conversation.
Through curriculum, advisory, student designed programs, parent conversations, assemblies, and training, Cannon seeks daily to help students feel at home with diversity.

We believe having a commitment to diversity and inclusion is the right thing to do and is essential to providing a full and complete Cannon School educational experience.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is rooted in three guiding principles:

We believe students succeed and develop best when they are introduced to multiple perspectives. We want Cannon School to be a place where adults – teachers, parents, and administrators – model acceptance and understanding in a way that helps young people to grow into even more tolerant and productive individuals.

The Board of Visitors at Cannon School brings a talented group of volunteer leaders together to discuss with each other and with Head of School Christopher Jones the key strategic issues facing the school and the surrounding area.
Our new mission statement is a clarification of who we are as a school community—one that nurtures all relationships in order to engage each individual learner in finding his or her own path to growth.
