University City Weekly: Students raise money for Haiti relief

3/19/2010

Published by the University City Weekly, March 19, 2010

Cannon School students raised more than $10,000 for American Red Cross earthquake relief efforts.

Students presented a check to the American Red Cross before the March 11 Charlotte Checkers hockey game at Time Warner Cable Arena. They spent nearly two months collecting cash donations and selling tickets to the game through its “Hockey for Haiti” campaign.

Students in junior kindergarten through fourth grades also collected more than 300 items to ship to Haiti, including new and gently used shoes, new socks, powdered baby formula and peanut butter.

More than 900 Cannon School parents and students dressed in school colors maroon and gold at the game.
