College Counseling

College Admission Panel Discussion

Choosing a college or university takes planning. Parents of Charlotte-area high school students in grades 9-11 are invited to learn how they can help their child conduct a successful college search that leads to a college choice that fits their child’s goals.

Cannon School will present a panel discussion with college admissions professionals on Wednesday, February 13, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Taylor Hall on the school’s Concord campus.  The public is invited to attend.

Jennifer Hantho from Carleton College and Janice Finney from Florida State University will present an overview of admission trends, the factors that make admission to college so competitive, and insight on how colleges evaluate applicants. They will also share why college fit matters and how high school students can determine which kind of college meets their unique needs.

Jennifer Hantho is senior associate dean of admissions at Carleton College. She has been a member of the university’s admissions staff for nearly twenty years. Director of Admissions Janice Finney is an FSU graduate and has held her role in the FSU admission office for ten years.

They will also address individual questions from the audience during this 90-minute program.

Please e-mail Kristin McClanahan with questions.
