Private Lesson Instructor - Guitar

We are currently seeking candidates for the 2014-15 school year. The Private Lesson Instructor will teach private guitar lessons on site to students after school from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.  Student ages may range from 3rd through 12th grade with a variety of skill levels.  Must be available two days a week during the school year, preferably Monday and Tuesday.  


Football Coach – Defensive Coordinator

Cannon School is searching for a Defensive Coordinator for its varsity football program. The Defensive Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in training and coaching members of the football team. This assistant coaching position is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Cannon School and the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA). The successful candidate is responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing weekly defensive game plans and practice scripts, as well as assisting with pre/post-season workouts. Previous coaching experience at the varsity or collegiate level is expected, where the candidate has displayed effective leadership, communication, and coaching. A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of high school rules and regulations is also required. Knowledge of the 4-2-5 defense is preferred. Additionally, knowledge of Hudl video scouting software is a plus. A bachelor’s degree is preferred

Event Technology Coordinator

The Event Technology Coordinator is a member of the technology team for the school. This position aids faculty, staff and others in facilitating events requiring professional live sound, lighting, and projection equipment for, but not limited to theatrical performances, athletic contests, formal community presentations/meetings, etc…In addition, this person will be responsible for maintaining all professional live sound, projection and lighting equipment. This person will be expected to provide instruction and assistance in the use of certain sound, lighting and presentation equipment to faculty, staff and students. This position often requires evening and weekend work to support school events, both on and off-site. Requirements for this position: College or technical degree preferred; high school diploma required, 5+ years of previous experience preferred


Lower School/Middle School Librarian
 
We are currently looking for a Lower School/Middle School Librarian for the 2014-2015 school year. The Lower School/Middle School Librarian will provide effective leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans for a comprehensive school library program. The Lower School/Middle School Librarian will also be responsible for teaching library classes to students in junior kindergarten through grade 6, will work closely with the Technology Coordinator to create programs that foster the development of effective research skills, and will serve as a resource to Lower and Middle School teachers, students, and staff. The ideal candidate will have experience as a librarian, a true passion for books and reading, as well as the ability to collaborate, be flexible, form positive, nurturing relationships with students, and understand the necessities of the twenty-first century library. In addition, he/she will be a lifelong learner, who demonstrates our core values of courage, teamwork, integrity, respect, passion, and kindness.
 
Requirements: A Master's degree in library science and certification. At least two years experience in a Lower or Middle School library.



Pre-Kindergarten/Junior Kindergarten Teacher
 
We are currently seeking candidates for the 2014-2015 school year. The Junior Kindergarten Teacher will create a nurturing, safe environment for our youngest children, instructing our students in foundational literacy skills, math, and handwriting. The ideal candidate will have experience in a pre-Kindergarten (4-5 year olds) classroom, a strong knowledge of developmental ages and familiarity with developmental educational programs, knowledge of differentiation and inquiry-based learning, a natural aptitude for cultivating relationships with students and families, and will also be flexible, collaborative, a team player, a lifelong learner, and possess a true love and passion for young children and their educational success. This candidate will also possess the qualities inherent in our core values of courage, teamwork, respect, integrity, passion, and kindness.
 
Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in early childhood/elementary education or a related educational field. At least two years experience in an elementary classroom.



Kindergarten Teacher Assistant
 
We are currently seeking candidates for the 2014-2015 school year. The Kindergarten Teacher Assistant works closely with the Kindergarten Teacher to facilitate learning and foster a warm, positive, nurturing classroom environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children, and will also be a team player, with the ability to follow the lead of the lead teacher. He/she will also be flexible, responsible, organized, and have a sincere love for working with our younger students. This candidate will also possess the characteristics that are inherent in our core values of courage, teamwork, respect, integrity, passion, and kindness.
 
Requirements: A college degree with some training in child development and elementary education is preferred, with at least one year of experience in a school-type setting.

 
  
Upper School Media Arts Teacher (Starting Fall 2014)
 
We are seeking a Media Arts Teacher to begin in the Fall 2014. The ideal candidate will have industry experience as well as teaching experience. Such a candidate will also be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to relate well with students and faculty alike. Cannon faculty are assigned a variety of duties that including advising students, leading extra-curricular activities, attending faculty meetings, etc. 
 
Requirements: A Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in fine arts with specialization in integrated digital media, media arts and technology, motion media design, or design media arts. Experience in filmmaking, game design, animation, and/or graphic design are desirable.
 
 
Lower School Teacher
 
We are currently seeking candidates for the 2014-2015 school year. The full-time Lower School Teacher will instruct students in reading and reading strategies, writing, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, math, and social studies, while creating a positive, engaging, and nurturing environment for learning. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in the elementary classroom; a natural aptitude for cultivating relationships with students and families; knowledge of differentiated instruction; and will also be flexible, collaborative, a team player, knowledgeable of child development, a lifelong learner, and possess a true love and passion for young children and their educational success. This candidate will also possess the qualities inherent in our core values of courage, teamwork, respect, integrity, passion, and kindness.
 
Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or a related educational field. At least two years experience in an elementary classroom
 
 
Upper School English Teacher

We are currently seeking candidates for our full time Upper School English Teacher position for the 2014-2015 school year. Our ideal candidate is experienced at teaching a range of high school English courses. This teacher may also be asked to serve as advisor for 10-12 students, or to take on other limited duties outside the classroom. Interest in coaching or other extra-curricular activities is a definite plus.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience required; Master's degree and several years of teaching experience preferred.

 
Middle School World Languages Teacher
 
We are seeking a creative teacher for French and Spanish for grades 5-8 for the 2014-2015 school year. Successful candidates will have personal skills to work flexibly and adaptably with students within this age range. The French and Spanish teacher is a member of the Middle School World Languages team and reports to the Head of Middle School. The curriculum for these classes offers both structure and freedom for the teacher. Outside of world languages teaching responsibilities, the teacher will also be asked to be an advisor to approximately ten students, serving as a personal advocate and check-in point for that group of students every day throughout the school year. After school activities such as coaching or sponsoring a club are also encouraged. Cannon School welcomes candidates of diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree minimum. A Master's degree and a minimum of three years of teaching Spanish and French as a second language preferred. Candidate must be able to teach in both French and Spanish at any of the Middle School grade levels. The School is eager to accept applications from traditionally under-represented groups. The ideal candidate will be:

Upper School Math Teacher (Starting Fall 2014)
 
Our ideal candidate is experienced in Geometry and Algebra II/Trigonometry and has the ability to teach a range of other Upper School math courses. Additional responsibilities outside of the classroom may include being an advisor to approximately twelve students, coaching an after-school sport, sponsoring a club, etc. This is full-time position for the 2014-2015 school year.
 
A Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience are required. Master’s degree and several years of teaching experience preferred.
