Middle School English Teacher
Cannon School seeks a Middle School English teacher who will teach four sections of English for the 15/16 school year. English instruction in the Middle School requires a demonstrated ability to teach both writing and literature, along with the vocabulary and grammar concepts appropriate for this age level. The teacher will seek to develop interdisciplinary projects with other members of the core grade-level faculty, serve on the grade-level curricular team, and subsequently, as an advisor. The ideal candidate will actively participate in the life of the school outside the classroom (including coaching) and perform other non-teaching duties as assigned.
Requirements: Candidates must possess demonstrated competence and experience in the content area and pedagogy for middle school. A Master’s degree in English or a related field, and a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility, energy, enthusiasm, high expectations of themselves and their students, and an understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students. Ability and interest in coaching at any level is a plus, but not required.
Part-Time Visual Arts Teacher
We are currently seeking a Visual Arts teacher to begin in the Fall of 2015. The ideal candidate will have experience working with high school age students in a variety of art mediums. Cannon part-time faculty are encouraged to attend professional development and faculty meetings. Cannon arts faculty are also required to participate in extra-curricular arts activities, etc.
Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree in arts education, fine or studio arts required. 1 year teaching experience preferred.
We are currently looking for a Middle School librarian for the 2015-2016 school year. The Middle School librarian will provide effective leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans for a comprehensive school library program. The Middle School librarian will also be responsible for teaching library skills to students in grades 5-8, will work closely with the technology coordinator to create programs that foster the development of effective research skills, and will serve as a resource Middle school teachers, students, and staff. The Middle School librarian will work closely with the Lower School and Upper School librarians in order to enhance the experience for all students JrK-12.
The ideal candidate will have experience as a librarian and a true passion for books and reading, as well as the ability to collaborate, be flexible, form positive, nurturing relationships with middle school students, and understand the necessities of the 21st century library. In addition, he/she will be a lifelong learner, who demonstrates our core values of courage, teamwork, integrity, respect, passion and kindness.
Education/Experience Requirements: Candidates should possess an MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution and at least 2 years’ experience in a middle school library.
